LITE Regal Summer School Film Academy course allows you to pursue your interests in film making and creative writing in a fully integrated programme of study. For the course in film making and screenwriting, you are taught by film professionals and tutors with extensive industry experience.You will gain hands-on practical training in all aspects of film production, including camera work, editing, lighting, script writing, and production management. You will produce group films (learning how to work as a team) as well as creating a personal short film bringing all the knowledge gained on the course in creative writing and film studies.
Our award winning course combines hands-on practical film-making & creative writing workshop. We encourage you to forge links between theory and practice.
You will be required to make a short film, using the knowledge you have gained during the course.
Why Should you Choose Lite Regal Summer School for Film Academy
Lite Regal Summer School will include a field visit to allow you to see Films and VFX in the “Real World” with a company such as Prime Focus Group and Double Negative (largest independent Animation and VFX serving Hollywood), Interstellar and Kingsmen among others.
You will learn how to plan, shoot and edit a short film and learn to shoot on location using professional industry-standard equipment, latest HD camcorders and film editing software.
Top academic tutors/lecturers and industry professionals in the Film Industry will teach you an exciting programme with workshops. This academic immersion and an exciting social programme and day and evening entertainment will allow you to mix, make new friends and enjoy your summer programme.
Whether you study in London or Cambridge there will be Field excursion to London to the Warner Bros Studio Tour in London
Highlights of the Film Academy Film Course unique to Lite Regal Summer School for 2025 will include:
- Visit an Oscar-winning Film Vfx Company Prime Focus in London and have a tour and presentation from a film and animation expert about Animation and Film Production
- Visit Warner Bros. Studio Tour - Visit The Making of Harry Potter and the Forbidden Forest. Students of Lite Regal will follow in the footsteps of Harry, Ron and Hermione into the Grounds of the Forbidden Forest.
Academic content
For the course in film-making and screenwriting, you are taught by film professionals and tutors with extensive industry experience. You gain hands-on practical training in all aspects of film production, including camera work, editing, lighting, scriptwriting, and production management. You produce group films (learning how to work together as a team) as well as creating a personal short film bringing all the knowledge gained on the course in creative writing and film studies.
You will learn about 5 stages of film making and have hands on experience at each stage:
- development: the first stage in which the ideas for the film are created, and the screenplay is written. Financing for the project has to be sought and greenlit
- pre-production: preparations are made for the shoot, in which cast and film crew are hired, locations are selected and sets are built
- production: the raw elements for the film are recorded during the film shoot
- post-production: the images, sound and visual effects of the recorded film are edited
- distribution: the finished film is distributed and screened in cinemas and / or released to home video
You will work individually and in groups to bring class studies into reality by producing a short film and this programme will include:
- 21+ hours per week of lessons and workshops
- choose the locations of your shoot
- handle and use the LITE Regal latest HD camcorders, professional series HD broadcasting and production series NX-CAM, XD-CAM and AVCHD advanced coding video high definition
- shoot on locations and get used to using lighting and sound equipment and edit / produce your short film
- use and edit films using video editing software on macs and visual effects VFX - Adobe Premier Pro CS6, final cut
Learning objectives

Students on the LITE Regal Film Academy course will learn transferable life skills which will prove vital in any career or academic path they will follow, these skills include:
- to be able to work individually, gain independence, self-regulate and task build / create an end goal task
- learn greater communication skills in speaking, listening and presenting different ideas
- gain confidence in dealing with challenging tasks by breaking down tasks into smaller sub-tasks
- gain confidence in dealing with new people and situations
Taste of profession
For the 2025 Summer Season Lite Regal has secured a field visit to DNEG and Prime Focus which will show student how VFX and Film making are produced in Award winning Company. Prime Focus World (PFW) and Double Negative (DNeg) are the world’s largest independent VFX, stereo conversion and animation company serving the Hollywood film industry. DNEG has won an OSCAR for VFX ON ‘INTERSTELLAR’. Students will be given a unique experience and learn the skills they have learned in the classroom and during “practical shoots” and learn how to combine these skills by watching and learning from industry professionals.

Cultural Excursions
Excursions take a full advantage of an excellent transport network both from London and Cambridge, giving you a real taste of life in England.
Destinations can include: Harry Potter World, Windsor Castle & Eton College, Oxford, Brighton, Chessington World of Adventure.
After School Activities
There is so much going on in London and Cambridge and we don’t think you’ll be bored. After classes you’ll have a range of activities to enjoy too.
Here are a few examples of the kind of activities you might have the opportunity to enjoy this summer:
visiting London Eye, Madame Tussauds or the famous Houses of Parliament, film nights, punting down the river, visiting a West End Theatre, themed parties, sports including tennis, swimming, dancing and many more.
Free Time
We understand that students will want some free time to relax, attend to personal administration and contact their families. Some free time will be provided for rest and relaxation, however, we believe the most valuable experience to the student is a fully immersive, packed programme of activities and so students should expect to be engaged in team activities for the majority of time.

You will be accommodated in one of the College campuses. Lite Regal Education uses the best quality accommodation - you will be allocated a premium room, a single en-suite room with own sink and shower and excellent WIFI. If you would like a shared en-suite room let us know. Students will be accommodated on single-sex corridors or floors, with staff members and mentors always available on site. Living all together is a great way to make friends and sample the university lifestyle, as the welcoming environment allows you to develop a sense of community.
Breakfast and lunch is served and eaten in the College dining hall, which provides a bright and comfortable space for communal meals. Students will enjoy a varied and healthy diet: all meals are freshly prepared and special diets can be catered for with advance notice. A three-course dinner is provided daily either in the College dining hall, or in various restaurants as part of the social programme.
Safety and Security on Campus
Students will be overseen by our course leaders and residential staff to classes and activities, who ensure that students are looked after pastorally and socially during their programme and are available to assist students at any time of the day or night.
All students will be issued with emergency contact details for staff members and will be given a full safety briefing on arrival.
Student welfare
LITE Regal Summer School offers a safe and secure environment that is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by our friendly and professional team. We have a dedicated team of Managers, Teachers and College Mentors. The welfare of our students is our main priority at all times and our staff specialise in the pastoral care of older teenagers.
Management Team
Our Management team is headed by the College Principal, who takes responsibility for the daily running of the college, and supervises the Academic Programme. The Social & Welfare Manager takes charge of the Social Programme and is supported by a team of College Mentors, who ensure everyone is happy, safe and having fun.
Working together, our Managers ensure that every aspect of the college runs smoothly, safely and offers every student the chance to participate fully.
College Mentors
Our Mentors are key members of staff who support and assist our students within the college accommodation and throughout the Social Programme. Our team of College Mentors work with our Social & Welfare Manager in organising the college’s social events and excursions, as well as accompanying students into campuses and during day trips. They are approachable and caring, ensuring that all students get involved in the life of the college.
Eligibility
Students on the Film Academy course:
- must be aged 15-18 before 1st September 2025 (if you are unsure of the age criteria entry please contact our registration team)
- must show enthusiasm for film-making and be creative and enjoy artistic pursuits
- must be fluent or near-fluent English language speakers – if you are unsure whether your English level is suitable for this programme, please contact our registration team
- must show motivation for attending the programme and participate in terms of attendance at lessons, meals and events
All successful applicants will also be required to provide a signed letter of consent from their parent or guardian. If offered a place, students and parents / guardians will also be required to sign a Code of Conduct for the summer school.

Lite Regal Summer School Film Academy Student Work
Lite Regal Summer School is glad to showcase the highlights and best of the Film Academies 2020 - 2021 students' work. The videos below are actual works of the students' work in Film Academy Session 1 and 2 and 3 2021. Students handled the latest video cameras and also cut and edited using the latest computers with the latest editing software.
Students were involved and taught all aspects of Film and Video Production from Pre Production to Post Production.
Students were of course had hands-on practice and were involved in :
